Connect a source

A source is one inventory system you have connected, such as your Homebox at home. You can have several. Everything you search or scan comes from your sources.

  1. Open the Sources tab and tap + (Add a source).
  2. Choose the system, enter its server address, and choose how to sign in.
  3. Save. UniBox tests the connection, then reads your containers and items.
System Server address looks like Sign in with
Homebox (version 0.26 or newer) http://192.168.1.10:3100 or https://homebox.example.com An API key (in Homebox: Profile → API keys), or your email and password
InvenTree https://inventree.example.com An API token, or your username and password
  • A plain http:// address on your own network is allowed (many home servers have no certificate).
  • Prefer an API key or token over a password: it can be revoked on the server without changing your password.
  • Your sign-in is kept in the phone’s secure storage (the iOS Keychain), never in the app’s normal database, and is only sent to the server you entered.

Tap a source to see what you can do:

  • Browse containers to look around and open a container.
  • Sync now to re-read everything from the server. Pulling down on the Sources list syncs all sources.
  • Test connection to check the address and sign-in.
  • Edit connection… to change the address or credentials. Your labels and saved data stay attached.
  • Remove… deletes the saved sign-in and the copy of your inventory on the phone (your server is not changed). It asks what to do with labels already linked to it: Keep them (they work again if you reconnect the source) or Invalidate them.

When a sign-in stops working (the key was deleted or the password changed) the source shows Sign-in needed, and the first action becomes Sign in again…. Scanning one of its labels says the same and offers Reconnect. Your labels and saved data stay as they are.
